Design Statement
This marks the beginning of an inspiring new chapter at JOI-Design. With Lively in Gronau and VILVIF in Hamburg, our studio is setting a strong example of what later life can look like when it is shaped by joy, independence and a sense of community. These two residences are far from conventional senior homes. They are places where design becomes the foundation for new perspectives and where aging is seen as a vibrant journey rather than an ending. The concepts were developed with meticulous care to create spaces that are both elegant and practical. From light-filled apartments with maritime touches in Hamburg’s HafenCity to the historic walls of a former cotton mill reimagined in Gronau, VILVIF and Lively blend contemporary comfort with an atmosphere that inspires and creates a sense of belonging. Every detail reflects the ambition to offer environments where people can remain active, creative and healthy as they grow older. You can feel it in the gently curved wooden panels in the lobby, in the wish tree crafted from delicate wire mesh and in the thoughtful balance of wellness, culture and culinary experiences. At the opening celebrations, the project partners shared their gratitude and excitement about contributing to this important shift in how we think about aging. Lively and VILVIF are places where the most beautiful chapters of life are only just beginning.

Design Statement
This marks the beginning of a new chapter at JOI-Design. With The Usual Rotterdam, a hotel brand is debuting that blends sustainability, design and a sense of community in a truly distinctive way. This flagship project was created to make conscious travel not just possible but the new standard. From minimalist pod rooms to spacious studios, every accommodation reflects a fresh vision of hospitality where environmental awareness and comfort go hand in hand. Recycled materials, renewable energy from Dutch windmills and transparent supply chains are at the core of a concept that takes responsibility seriously. The Usual is a vibrant place where guests, locals and creatives come together to share ideas and bring projects to life. Whether in the Makers Studio, at the bar finished with terrazzo offcuts or in the game room with its oversized Connect Four, the spaces invite people to connect and feel inspired. With this project, JOI-Design is showing how design can unite purpose and heart. May The Usual Rotterdam inspire many more places where travel becomes a force for good.

Statement
It’s the dawn of a promising new chapter at JOI-Design as our three partners, Sabrina Voecks, Barbara Wiethoff and Thomas Scholz, take the reins from our interior architecture studio’s founders, Corinna Kretschmar-Joehnk and Peter Joehnk. The transition has been years in the making, with our partners deeply immersed in the design philosophy, business practices and sense of community the studio is known for. Thoughtfully planned, the succession process embodies the culture Corinna and Peter cultivated: fine-tuned to project details yet also focused on the humanity and wit that characterise JOI-Design. This ensures our company’s clients will continue receiving the high quality of creative concepts and attention-to-detail they’ve come to expect, while our company’s team members will have new opportunities to develop their design and leadership skills. Although Corinna and Peter will remain as consultants to JOI-Design, the heavy lifting now transitions to Sabrina, Barbara and Thomas. On April 24, at our handover ceremony with project partners and personal friends, the trio shared their deep gratitude for being entrusted to continue JOI-Design’s legacy. Let the next chapter commence!

Design Statement
A fresh highlight from JOI-Design is now adding new energy to Düsseldorf’s Rhine promenade. The Zipper is a place where hospitality, wellness and urban living come together in an experience that feels both uplifting and effortless. More than just a hotel, it is a retreat designed to inspire mindfulness, restore balance and spark curiosity. Warm natural materials, thoughtful details and biophilic touches create a setting where guests immediately feel relaxed and at ease. The contemporary apartments combine character with comfort, while the fitness and wellness areas overlooking the Rhine offer space to recharge body and mind. Developed in close collaboration with Hospitality X, this project captures the spirit of modern living and shows how design and architecture can create an atmosphere that is as inspiring as it is personal. The Zipper invites you to slow down, discover something new and reconnect with yourself. May this house inspire many people and become a place they will want to return to time and again.

Design Statement
Salty sea air, endless sandy beaches, and the sound of the ocean waves prepare guests for the island’s atmosphere. During a walk along the shore, one can truly sense the vastness of the sea and be swept away by the tranquil ambience, far removed from the bustle of the city. Located amidst the breathtaking dune landscape of the North Sea island of Sylt, the Söl’ring Hof boutique hotel warmly welcomes its guests. Perched on the dune, the hotel captures the charm of a private holiday residence and offers guests an exclusive experience surrounded by the island’s stunning natural beauty. Another highlight of the property is the hotel’s own restaurant, renowned for its culinary diversity and exceptional fine dining. For the past two years, it has held two Michelin stars. Regional and seasonal ingredients are reinterpreted to create a unique culinary experience.

Design Statement
A new Marriott Autograph Collection property celebrates its debut on Lake Tegernsee. The pursuit of moments of pause, authentic retreats, and an escape from the often overcrowded routines of everyday life has become increasingly important to society in times like these. Whether for an extended trip to the mountains, a visit to the lake, or a long weekend away, it was especially important for us to respond sensitively to the unique resort location on Lake Tegernsee and to make it an essential part of the interior design concept. The setting in nature, yet still within close reach of the Munich metropolitan area, makes both possible: contemplation and deceleration. A reduced design language with subtle accents guides guests through spaces that introduce them to the land and its people, allowing them to immerse themselves deeply in the local culture.

NOVEMBER 2022
A-ROSA SENA
JOI-Design reimagines river cruising through a relaxing slow travel concept with ultigenerational appeal.
Design Statement
With the launch of the A-ROSA SENA on the Rhine in the summer of 2022, two milestones were celebrated simultaneously: the debut of a new generation of river cruise ships and the completion of the first floating project by JOI-Design, the interior architecture studio widely recognized for its expertise in hospitality design. The design team developed a fresh, light-filled interior concept that combines contemporary aesthetics with an inviting sense of comfort. This approach not only sets a new standard for river cruising but also aims to appeal to a younger target audience eager for modern experiences on the water. The concept is intended to be gradually extended across the entire fleet of A-ROSA Flussschiff GmbH, creating a cohesive brand identity that reflects innovation, style, and a focus on relaxed luxury.

SEPTEMBER 2022
THE FLAMINGO Timmendorfer Strand
Timmendorf goes Miami Beach: THE FLAMINGO makes a splash at Germany’s Baltic Sea coastline.
Design Statement
At the end of June 2022, the first Nordicwave lifestyle hotel, THE FLAMINGO, opened in Timmendorf. With its uniquely vibrant yet exclusive design concept, it captures the spirit of Miami Beach and bathes the Baltic Sea coast in flamingo red and mint green. For the transformation of the former “Hotel Atlantis,” the interior designers from JOI-Design in Hamburg developed a narrative inspired by the iconic American city on Florida’s coast – a place synonymous with lifestyle, pastel colors, and carefree beach vacations. This approach won over the client and laid the foundation for a compelling new identity. The focus of the redesign was to revitalize the long-established property and to open it up to a younger target audience eager for fresh experiences and a sense of laid-back sophistication.

JANUARY 2022
Olympus Europa-Headquarter in Hamburg
JOI-Design applies its hospitality expertise for a reimagined work experience where interaction, innovation and inspiration come into focus.
Design Statement
Hamburg, January 26, 2022: In July 2021, the global medical technology company Olympus moved into its new headquarters for the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region, as well as for Olympus Deutschland GmbH, located in the heart of Hamburg. The building meets the highest standards of workplace quality and sustainability, providing more than 1,200 employees with an inspiring environment in which to work and collaborate. JOI-Design developed the interior design concept for the so-called Olympus Campus in Hammerbrook, spanning a total of 11 floors and nearly 35,000 square meters of space. The concept sets new benchmarks in office design and delivers forward-thinking answers to the constantly evolving demands of contemporary work environments.

Design Statement
September 16, 2021: In the heart of the Maremma region, JOI-Design created a design language for the new “il Salotto” Wines & Resort that elegantly translates traditional Tuscan references into a contemporary context. Architecturally, the building also adopts the Tuscan style, reinterpreting it in a modern way to ensure that the new construction blends seamlessly and charmingly into its surroundings.
