    THE FLAMINGO Timmendorfer Strand

Timmendorfer Strand Goes Miami Beach: When redesigning of the former "Hotel Atlantis", we drew inspired from the iconic American culture of Miami Beach: laid-back lifestyle, pastel shades, and carefree holidays on the Florida coastline. Our vision was to create a ‘rejuvenating’ cure that would ‘turn back the clock’ and renew the youthful spirit inside every guest, whilst simultaneously revitalising the long-established, but tired, hotel so it would attract younger clientele.

Our competition-winning vision was utterly embraced, with the client aligning the hotel’s new name, logos and branding with our design scheme to form a holistic 'perfect match'. A flamingo adorns the building’s façade, drawing guests to a landscape of real sand and palm trees, a small beach house, and the owner’s vintage pink Cadillac. Inside, the custom reception desk displays a huge real aquarium, while the palette in the bar channels Miami’s Art Deco heritage. Brightly coloured LED mosaics embedded in the bespoke counter twinkle when touched by fingertips, making every cocktail a vibrant opportunity to laugh with friends.

Sustainability is integral, from design features to operational practices. The restaurant uses regional ingredients, while the interiors‘ authentic materials have reduced carbon footprints thanks to local manufacturing and workshops. Real oak parquet timber beautifully grounds the design scheme of the 50 guest rooms while also showcasing a regional natural resource. Interconnecting the public areas are high-quality anthracite-coloured floors whose mosaic patterns provide a 'modern translation' of the characteristic terrazzo floors found in the world-famous buildings of Miami Beach’s historic Art Deco district. These features increase the stylish vibe and, thanks to their durability, the décor’s longevity and therefore sustainability. We fight to ensure genuine materials such as these are installed in our projects because they create longer-lasting designs rather than short-lived fashionable trends.
