    The Usual Rotterdam

    EXTRA-ORDINARY

JOI-Design launches the new hotel brand THE USUAL in Rotterdam, promoting travel as a force for good.

Debuting in May 2024, The Usual Rotterdam, winner of the 2024 Iconic Award and shortlisted for two SBID awards, embodies a fresh approach to travel with biophilic design and community initiatives. The hotel aims to make conscious travel customary, powered by 100% renewable energy and pursuing Green Key and BREEAM certifications.

The property features 209 accommodations in three price categories, including 40 capsule-inspired ‘Pod’ rooms, and eco-friendly materials like recycled wood and LED lighting. The lobby encourages local interaction, while the U Bar incorporates sustainable design elements from local sources.

With a focus on creativity, The Usual invites start-ups and artists to collaborate in dedicated spaces. Approximately 70% of the food and beverage offerings are sourced from local companies, enhancing community ties and reducing emissions.

The Usual's holistic approach considers environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles to benefit the local community. Future expansions are planned, including a location in Brussels.
