Coffee Points @ Lufthansa Seeheim - Products curated by JOI-Design
About the project: Billing itself as 'More Than a Conference Hotel', this destination has everything conventions need, and much more: located high on a mountain in the midst of the countryside, the property is well-connected to transport hubs including the Frankfurt Airport. It's ideal for meeting globally minded people in natural tranquility while also enjoying contemporary interiors that reflect the Lufthansa brand. Corridors between conference rooms were spaceplanned to be extra wide to encourage interactive mingling during breaks. To make the most of these passageways, we designed 'coffee points': central meeting spots for coffee and conversation. We took our cues from the surrounding nature, dedicating each storey to a different facet of the landscape: leaves, stones, wood and water. Thus, each level has its own identity. Sustainability was also very important: we refurbished existing, still structurally-sound furniture, weaving them into the design concept alongside new products. This resulted in a variety of high-quality experiences – see for yourself:
Barstool 'Link', Lapalma (Italy)
It was important that the new barstools met the same high standards as the existing ones. This model fits perfectly with our concept because it incorporates natural wood, stands securely on a slender frame, and also offers comfort with the low-profile backrest - a win-win situation for us!
Chair 'Elephant', Kristalia (Italy)
With its slightly curved shape and light, charming style, this Italian manufacturer’s elegant chair has a modern spirit that harmonises wonderfully with our design concept.
Pendant lamp 'Caravaggio P1', Lightyears (Denmark)
This pendant lamp reminds us of a modern interpretation of a vintage milk jug and fits incredibly well into gastronomy concepts. Differently coloured matte-finish pendants are combined into an eye-catching installation that grounds the space beneath them with a sense of support and security.
Chair 'Duna 02', Arper (Italy)
Another new chair mixed with existing ones: while in theory these are a 'perfect match' to the previous model, fully upholstered seats add a new dimension. You can choose where you want to settle! The upholstrered versions also have another perk – acoustic sound absorption, while the oak frame complements the special mountaintop location.
Pendant lamp 'Halo Ruler', Vibia (Spain)
In addition to the pendant lamps‘ directional illumination, we wanted to add diffused light that would also become a new design accent. We liked these latticed chandeliers reminscent of dancing Mikado sticks—they bring lightness to the room without adding stiffness to the composition!
Missoni Flame Patch Green, Bolon (Sweden)
It was important that the corridors‘ various seating islands would create an atmosphere inviting guests to rest between conference sessions. Instead of relying on high-pile carpets like in traditional grand hotels, we opted for this material: a synthetic fibre weave with the appearance of a carpet island, yet it also creates a modern statement that’s easy to care for. A contemporary alternative to carpets!
Armchair 'Slow Chair', Vitra (D)
With the armchairs, which we also wanted to sprinkle into the concept from time to time, because you are supposed to lean back here during the breaks and let your mind wander in addition to all the activity - here we found what we were looking for in this product and very happy with the find: It doesn't look 'plush' at all and is still super comfortable! That's what convinced us!
