Hyatt Place Zurich Airport: DaDa-Lounge - Products curated by JOI-Design
About the project: Hyatt Place Zurich Airport The Circle made its long-awaited debut in December last year with inviting spaces that creatively reflect Swiss culture.
The owners of Zurich Airport and Swiss Life put together a team of international experts for the interiors: through a joint cooperation in a series of workshops, interior design studio JOI-Design, architects from HRS Real Estate AG, designers from Atelier Zürich GmbH, lighting planners from Reflexion AG, and procurement specialists from Feuring Hotel Development Europa GmbH developed a special concept that conveys characteristic “Swissness” in a modern way with occasional winks to cultural icons.
Eames Elephant, Vitra (Germany)
The DaDa Lounge: in the heart of the lobby is a tribute to Dadaism, the avant-garde art and literary movement that originated in Zurich. On contrasting walls, pieces from this period‘s well-known personalities are represented. In keeping with the zeitgeist, we also played with furniture that forms a deliberate interjection, like this ottoman in the shape of an elephant.
Sofa ,Trio‘, COR (Germany)
In the centre of the lounge. you can sit down to see and be seen – or unpack your laptop. The modular sofa system fits perfectly into the context and was the perfect choice for us with its cubic shape.
Wall lamp ‚Moulds Small‘, Lasvit (Czechia)
Of course, we also wanted to set the stage for our artistic ‘Wall of Fame’, and this beautiful lamp caught our eye. With its timber base and rustic design, it adds a special twist that embodies a characteristically Swiss reference to nature. The wooden wall bracket was a bespoke addition that elegantly contrasts with the glass ball.
Armchiar ,Mad King‘, Poliform (Italy)
These armchairs are all-rounders: super comfortable with high backrests that create a pleasing sense of protection, yet also open to the buzz of the lounge. Their asymmetric armrests include a small shelf perfect for your drink or laptop
Sofa ,Pinch’, La Cividina (Italy)
This high-back chair lets you check emails undisturbed. We were especially impressed by a clever detail: the base’s feet that extend around the backrests to hold the piece together like an oversized parcel tape.
Chair ,Seley‘, Horgenglarus (Switzerland)
This chair hasn't travelled far. A true Swiss original, it’s from the oldest chair and table manufacturer in Switzerland, Horgenglarus, and combines sustainability with Swiss craftsmanship. As the name suggests, the company was originally founded in Horgen near Zurich, then later expanded to include the Glarus production site.
Chair ‚Ghul‘, Eternit (Austria)
This sculpturally shaped light reminded us of an infinity loop and complements the seating we selected for the airport’s outdoor lounge. The chairs’ simple yet elegant appearance and fibre cement construction won us over. Add a few blankets and pillows, and then they even have the feel of a comfortable cottage.
