JOI-Design wins a silver DRIVENxDESIGN award for the hotel’s interior design

02 March 2021: The DRIVENxDESIGN awards programme honours unique projects that focus on the courage, diversity and excellence of interior designers. JOI-Design has won a DRIVENxDESIGN silver medal in its Berlin Design Awards 2021 in the category 'Interior Design - Hospitality' for me and all hotel in Kiel, Germany.

The jury was won over by the powerful design statement created for this boutique and lifestyle brand from Lindner Hotels AG. In Kiel, ‘urban natural chic’ meets rugged shipyard style.

The interior design concept’s nomination was independently selected and voted for by DRIVENxDESIGN as part of its 'Elevate Hope' campaign created to put emerging designers and projects in the spotlight.

The Design Challenge

A special-yet-challenging scenario: all the public area amenities expected in a 3- to 4-star hotel coexist within an open-plan layout at street level. Ensuring guests’ comfort from the moment of arrival was essential. JOI-Design’s solution uses visual cues and varying floor heights to distinguish each zone and create a natural spatial flow that intuitively guides visitors.

To avoid drifting towards kitsch, the JOI-Design team led by senior interior designer Hannah Loch chose casual maritime accents that cleverly refer to the proximity to the water and the harbour, while steel and concrete elements allude to the rough character of a shipyard. Natural materials and references to nature go hand-in-hand to create a relaxed, down-to-earth atmosphere for guests and locals.

With 164 captivating guest rooms, the me and all hotel in Kiel is the fourth property in this new lifestyle brand from Lindner Hotels AG.

Large Nordic-style timber planks line the bedroom floor and headboard wall, while black ironmongery accents and exposed concrete walls allude to the spirit of a maritime shipyard. Ropes with cleats become clothes hooks, while a diver motif on the wall next to the bed stimulates dreams and a seawater blue-coloured sink complete the nautical ambience. Built-in windows seats offer a quiet perch to take in the buzz from the Kiel fjords and harbour beyond.

About me and all hotels

Lindner Hotels AG’s second brand is me and all hotels. Developed in 2015 by board members Andreas Krökel and Otto Lindner, the first hotel opened in Düsseldorf in October 2016, followed by the second location in Mainz in 2018, the third hotel in Hanover in May 2020, and the Kiel property in July 2020. In 2017, me & all Hotels GmbH was founded together with the Hanseatic Group to significantly accelerate the growth of the new boutique brand. Further contracts have already been signed for me and all hotels in central locations in the cities of Stuttgart, Ulm, Leipzig and Düsseldorf. With their urban, casual flair, me and all hotels appeal primarily to city and business travellers as well as urban locals who want to combine living, working and communicating in a friendly atmosphere. The easy-going heart of the hotels is the open fusion of check-in, bar, lounge and co-working corners. Vintage furniture, accessories selected with a twinkle in the eye, and the latest technical equipment combine function and finesse, professionalism and individuality, luxury and cosiness.
