Autograph Collection Caro & Selig
JOI-Design in the footsteps of Queen Caroline of Bavaria.
Making time for moments of reflection, restorative retreats and escapes from our jam-packed everyday lives has become increasingly important in recent times, whether an extended trip in the mountains or a weekend at a lake. This made it all the more important that our interior design of the Autograph Caro & Selig hotel would intertwine sensitively with the natural surrounds of Lake Tegernsee. The resort’s picturesque location in the Bavarian Alps is not far from Munich, making both quick getaways and longer holidays possible. Relaxation and reflection take centre stage here. Subtle accents in the minimalist design gently guide guests through spaces attuned to the land and its people, resulting in a deep immersion into the local culture.
In addition, the Autograph Caro & Selig honours the story of the 19th century trailblazer, Queen Caroline. "Nods to the queen’s modern character, delicate femininity and way of life are intertwined with the harmonious Bavarian surroundings to catapult her memory into the present," says Sina Büscher, senior interior designer at JOI-Design.
Queen Caroline (also known as Caro) was said to have been “blissfully happy” when she discovered the beauty of Lake Tegernsee in the 1800s. She made it her mission to bring happiness to all Tegernsee residents. Ahead of her time, Caro was known for treating everyone equally regardless of traditional stereotypes and their standing in society.
In addition to collecting works by female artists, she was deeply spiritual and built "retreats" in her Lake Tegernsee castle that were dedicated exclusively to inner contemplation and purity of the soul. She shared the spirituality and happiness she felt at Lake Tegernsee with everyone - hence the name Caro & Selig, since the English translation of the German word "Selig” is "blessed”.
