THE FLAMINGO Timmendorfer Strand - Products curated by JOI-Design
About the project: For the very first nordicwave lifestyle hotel, THE FLAMINGO in Timmendorfer Strand, we developed a story inspired by the vibrant lifestyle of Miami Beach and bathed the Baltic Sea coast in shades of flamingo red and mint green. The concept of ‘Miami’ represents relaxed lifestyles, pastel tones and carefree beach holidays. The focus of our redesign was to reposition and revitalise a long-standing establishment by opening it up for younger clientele. This very bold concept won our client over so much that it became inspiration for the name of the new hotel brand.
Barstool ,Strike ST’, Arrmet (Italy)
The bar is absolutely the centrepiece of the entire hotel concept and welcomes guests in two contrasting monochromatic colour worlds: dark pink juxtaposed with anthracite. These barstools immediately won us over with their comfort even though, at the same time, they exude a sense of lightness.
Ceiling lamp ,Mirro 2.0', Wever & Ducré (Germany)
The ceiling lights’ name already hints at what they do: 'Mirro' stands for mirror! These fixtures make the whole room shine and even look larger and more interesting, plus they are little all-‘rounders – you can also place them on the wall. We did this in the hallway leading to the bar so that, together with those on the ceiling, we formed a 'tunnel' that literally pulls you in.
Restaurant Chair 'Heaven Dining', Bielefelder Werkstätten (Germany)
It’s not easy to find comfortable dining table chairs. This model appealed to us because not only is it comfortable, it also looks rather inviting from a distance – like a pillow – which makes every place the favourite seat.
Pendant Light ,Meltdown Single Bowl’, Cappellini (Italy)
These crystal-clear pendant lamps provide just the right accent next to the bed – slightly playful yet very warm and cozy. We also included the word ‘wave’ as art in a nod to the name of the new hotel group as it continues receiving more and more attention.
Custom-made washbasin – glaze 'OPALINE', Pyrolave (Germany)
We already knew about this material from another project and were so impressed we used it again here. So in this instance, we come across as a repeat offender – but there's a good reason for that: the glaze comes in so many gorgeous colours, we just had to try another shade! The sink itself is made from glazed lava stone with the glaze ‘seawater green’ – a touch of the surf even if you don't feel like going to the beach. :-)
Towel radiator ,Scaletta 185', Tubes Radiatori (Italy)
Matching the laid-back vibe of the lava stone sink, here is another important – and equally relaxed - bathroom accessory: a heated towel warmer! But it’s not just any ol’ radiator – this one leans casually against the wall like a ladder and tapers upwards to elegantly integrate with the room. We found a 'perfect match'!
Bench ,Campus de Luxe', ipDesign (Germany)
Another favourite piece from the bedrooms: a long bench that stretches in front of the window! Here you can read, relax, lay your swimsuit out to dry, pack your beach bag.... or, you can simply use the chaise longue as a luggage rack: a multifunctional helper that breathes extra cosiness into the space. This is where your holiday begins!
